workshop2-hour Workshop for K – 5th Graders

If your child were approached by a predator, would he/she know how to respond? Statistically, more than 1 in 10 children are sexually abused before turning 18, and more than 90% of the time the predator is not a stranger. This active workshop teaches children in K – 5th grade how to recognize dangerous people, avoid unsafe situations, and escape an attacker. The workshop teaches children who predators are and how they operate,** and equips participants to respond appropriately to a dangerous situation and get to safety. Full-force self-defense tactics practice is included in this workshop.

Parents are encouraged to attend (at no charge) and all children must be chaperoned by an adult. For more details and FAQ about the Revved Up Kids Safety Day Workshop, visit the 2-Hour Program Page on this site.

**This workshop includes age appropriate discussion of predators and sexual abuse. Please call us if you have any questions, 678.526.3335.

2-hour Workshop for Middle and High School Girls

Before registering for this workshop, please read the “NOTE ABOUT CONTENT FOR PRE-TEENS” at the bottom of this page.

Teen girls are targeted for violence by strangers more than any other age group. They also face a high risk of violence from acquaintances and dating partners. This workshop will help middle and high school girls understand these dangers, and equip them to stay safer. The workshop teaches girls to incorporate personal safety into all decision making, use voice and body with confidence to deter a threat, and defend themselves against a larger, stronger attacker. Participants will learn and practice self-defense tactics on low, middle and high body targets, practice choke hold releases, learn how to improvise weapons and respond to an attacker with a weapon. Additionally, participants will learn about the early signs of abuse in dating relationships, and how to be safer from predators on social media.

Parents are encouraged, but not required, to attend the session with their daughters (adults attend at no charge). For more details about this event, visit the Safety Day Program Page on this site.

NOTE ABOUT CONTENT FOR PRE-TEENS: It will be assumed that any girl attending this event will have basic knowledge of the subject matter to be discussed. Pre-teens who have not be introduced to the concepts of sex, sexuality and sexual violence/rape should not attend this workshop, but they could benefit from attending the K-5th Safety Day Workshop. Please call us if you have any questions, 678.526.3335.

FREE SEMINAR: Child Safety Tips for Parents

Monday, August 21, 7pm-8pm

Listen to the news and it can seem like predators are all around us. For many parents, the thought of this is too much, and they cannot bring themselves to talk with their children about it.

The Revved Up Kids Child Safety Tips for Parents seminar will help parents understand how predators hide in plain sight, select and groom their victims, and equip parents with the best ways to protect children from being easy targets.

Hosted by the Decatur Police Department, this seminar is free to attend, but advance reservations are requested due to limited space. Register today on Eventbrite.
