Revved Up Kids is pleased to partner with The Villages at Carver YMCA to bring training to children served in the YMCA after school program.

This training is made possible by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners under the guidance of the Department of Housing and Community Development.

If approached by a predator, would your son or daughter know how to respond? The Revved Up Kids Personal Safety/Self-Defense Workshop teaches participants to Be Smart (recognize unsafe people and avoid dangerous situations) and Be Strong (use voice and body with power and confidence to escape an attacker) so they can Be Safe from predators. This workshop includes full-force tactics practice.

This workshop is being hosted by the Decatur Police Department and is open to the public. All children must be accompanied by an adult chaperone, preferably a parent or guardian (adults do not pay tuition to attend).

Space is limited, advance registration required.

WORKSHOP SUMMARY

Participants in the Revved Up Kids Personal Safety/Self-Defense Workshop will be taught about protecting themselves from predators (“unsafe people”) in an age appropriate way. The workshop includes the following:

  • How to identify a predator
  • What steps to take to be safer from predators (everyday awareness skills, using voice and body to deter a threat)
  • How predators lie/lure/trick children, secrets vs. surprises
  • How to respond to an attacker (simple self-defense tactics, escaping to safety)

Pre-teens and teens face dangers from predators in their real worlds and online. The Revved Up Kids Personal Safety/Self-Defense Workshop helps middle schoolers understand their risks and teaches them to Be Smart (recognize unsafe people and avoid dangerous situations) and Be Strong (use voice and body with power and confidence to escape an attacker) so they can Be Safe. This workshop includes full-force tactics practice.

This workshop is being hosted by the Decatur Police Department and is open to the public. Parents are encouraged, but not required, to attend the workshop with their children (adults do not pay tuition to attend).

Space is limited, advance registration required.

NOTE: this workshop includes frank discussion and assumes participants will have a basic understanding of sex and sexual violence.
